Whether your customer is a financial institution, a retail store, school, hospital, or any other commercial entity, the story is the same: Security executives' budgets are tight and getting tighter, and they have a short time frame to install and update their security systems. With time constraints becoming more of an issue, wireless technology has become a valuable tool. Not having to pull wire from a security panel out to endpoint sensors saves time and money during installation. And as the difficulty of a wired installation increases, the savings increase. Moreover, some applications require the use of wireless, such as mobile duress alarm signaling.

Commercial businesses rely on an array of security sensors for intrusion detection systems, including safe contacts, glass break detectors, fixed location and mobile panic buttons, and perimeter sensors. Wireless door contacts can monitor uncontrolled openings in access control systems, and wireless motion detectors can make video footage more meaningful in challenging scenes, such as at night, outdoors, or at a great distance. A wireless approach to physical security provides the same sensor options of a hardwired system, without the expensive and cumbersome wiring costs, and with additional flexibility and functionality. Healthcare, education retail, financial, and government institutions have all used wireless security systems for more than 30 years.

A wireless approach allows any commercial enterprise to adapt easily to facility adjustments, site plan changes, and new monitoring requirements. Hardwiring security devices in hard-to-reach points of access drives up the cost of installation and makes job completions unpredictable. Moreover, older facilities present additional wiring challenges due to thick walls, high ceilings, and asbestos abatement. All of these wiring challenges add time and costs that can affect the financial success of the commercial enterprise. As you would expect, the greater the number of wireless endpoints in a given system, the greater the savings. While most locations have an existing security system in place, successful enterprises are usually performing a number of upgrades somewhere in their facilities. This continuous renewal of the underlying security system presents an excellent opportunity to examine the merits a wireless security solution.

Wireless also offers additional functional advantages. Duress pendant transmitters give mobile employees the ability to trigger an alarm from anywhere in a building or parking lot, and lone workers can use wireless pendants to call for help in case of an accident. Duress pendants can even call attention to related cameras in video surveillance.
